Take in a Broadway musical, comedy, ballet and the symphony, all in one day. Hotels with history, internationally ranked art exhibits, unique shops, fine dining, night clubs and cafés…all wrapped into one charming package in Downtown State College. Host of the renowned Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts each summer, First Night State College® each winter and home to the Penn State Nittany Lions, there is always something to do Downtown…and it’s all a stone’s throw from the peaceful seclusion of a wooded trail in the mountains; some say once you get here, you may not want to leave!
Want a little historic charm? Colonial Boalsburg, a town over 200 years old, is the birthplace of Memorial Day and a five minute drive from State College. Each year Boalsburg commemorates the event with “A Day in Towne”, a Memorial Day celebration which attracts over 25,000 visitors. Businesses on the diamond and surrounding areas of the village work hard to preserve its historic charm and hospitality. Home to the Pennsylvania Military Museum, Boal Mansion Museum, Columbus Chapel—with ties to Christopher Columbus and Duffy’s Tavern, an old stagecoach stop, there are endless stories waiting to be told…
Visit Victorian Bellefonte…Seven United States Governors called it home and it is one of the most beautiful Victorian Downtowns in the country. Beautiful architecture is pristinely preserved in the National Historic District and the town transports you back in time each holiday season with its Victorian Christmas Celebration. Bellefonte was named after a large spring that still flows through the center of town and is the focal point of Talleyrand Park. Dine in the Gamble Mill, an upscale restaurant nestled inside what was a working gristmill! |
